Search Templates
Overview
The session search UI provides you with the ability to quickly locate sessions of interest and is used for identifying common visitor behaviours with similar content for replay or deeper analysis.
Sessions can be filtered easily by searching session that are:
- in progress, called Active sessions. These are stored in memory
- no longer active due to and end of session message or a timeout occurring (~30 mins of inactivity). Sessions no longer active are marked as Completed and written to disk. All sessions are a combination of both active and complete.
With 1000's or 10,000+ sessions often stored within Discover, session search is a useful feature to quickly and simply identify sessions of interest.
Default Search
The search UI for both the active and completed sessions defaults to a template of the basic search fields ready to use. This default is useful for general and groups, although not personalised to individual roles or teams. Adding fields from the Search Fields menu and entering values will narrow the list of returned sessions and time taken to search after clicking the 'Search' button.
Creating a Template
Creating a personalised search template for role or teams is useful to enable a quick and simplified approach to identifying specific sessions containing data relevant to your needs. For example:
- Customer service - Search for Events containing a customers email address or unique username
- Marketing - Search for Events containing specific coupon codes
- Operations - Search for Events with error messages or logon attempts greater than three (3)
Setting a Group Default
Setting a group default is useful to make the new search template the default for specific groups as shown as an option in the Permissions tab.
User Default?
A user default can also be set for search templates.
Activity
Creating a personalised search template can provide a productivity boost when searching for specific data.
- Create a new search template with one (1) or more events, the event should be related to your coupon code (or other data as required).
- Set the parameters of the search template to be:
- All sessions should be searched.
- Search sort by Browser.
- The template should span the last two (2) days.
- Stop searching after 1,000 records.
- Assign the access to the search template to another user or group and validate their access by logging into Discover.
