DEX Installation

This topic provides a detailed sequence of steps required to install all BigFix DEX components. The installation must follow the order listed to ensure successful integration and configuration of all dependent services.

To install DEX, you must use the Fixlets to install each server component of DEX (Note: currently DEX is supported only on Microsoft Windows). As a consequence, the BigFix Agent must be pre-installed on the target nodes; otherwise, the fixlets can’t be deployed.

The server-side components are:

Root Server DEX Plugin
DEX FillDB
DEX Server
Scanner DEX Plugin

Mandatory Installation Sequence

Note: Additions configurations required are: MTLS and Wiindows Authentication.

The following installation order must be strictly followed:

MSSQL: Bundled or separate instance — no install fixlet
ClickHouse: Fixlet #20 / #22 — RHEL and Ubuntu
NATS JetStream: Fixlet #26 — Windows
DEX Server: Fixlet #32 — Windows (once)
DEX FillDB: Fixlet #31 — Windows (multi-node)
Root Server Plugin: Fixlet #29 — Root Server only
Scanner Plugin: Fixlet #24 — Win 10/11 & Mac 13+ (after Scanner Fixlet #103)

Note:

Sequences 1 to 3 are not mandatory and can be installed in any order.
Sequences 4 to 7 should be followed in the same order.
