Configuring Inventory
Configure inventory settings to track, forecast, and allocate stock to customers from the configuration section on Inventory Management dashboard.
Objectives of Configuration
Configure global item settings, manage expected deliveries for ATP forecasting.
The system uses Available-To-Promise (ATP) forecasting. ATP calculates the available quantity of an item by adding current on-hand stock to expected incoming deliveries, and subtracting stock allocated to pending orders.
Available Sub-Options
To manage forecasting, Configuration provides two tools:
| Configuration Tool | Primary Function | Business Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Configure Items | Establishes the global or as per channel configuration, parameters, and thresholds for tracking inventory items across the system. | Ensures consistency so that low-stock alerts, units of measurement, and tracking behaviors are standardized. For more information, see Configure Items. |
| Configure Expected Inventory | Manages incoming shipments, future deliveries, and purchase orders. | Populates data for ATP forecasting to allow the sale of products that are in transit. For more information, see Configure Expected Inventory. |
Benefits of Inventory Configuration
Using Configuration prevents stockouts and backorders. Keeping global item settings accurate and expected inventory updated ensures that sales channels display reliable delivery dates to buyers.
