Assigning search term to a layout

You can create a layout that overrides the default search results page for a specific search term. For example, you might want to design a unique layout that is displayed whenever a customer searches for cameras to make the search results page more relevant to camera enthusiasts.

Before you begin

Read Layout assignments for search terms.

Under the Layouts folder in the explorer view, create a folder to store your layouts in, if there is not already a suitable folder.

About this task

Users with access to the Page Composer tool can assign search terms to a layout by selecting the Search Terms tab in the Edit Layout view.

Procedure

  1. Open Management Center Tools and from the left navigation menu, select Business tools > Store Management > Page Composer.
  2. A landing page opens which lists all the existing pages. The landing page consists of two sections, Pages and Layouts.
  3. Select Layouts to create a new page layout. See Creating a new layout for more information.
  4. After creating a new layout, you can assign the search term to a layout in the edit layout flow. From the Store filter, select the store for which you want to edit the existing layout.
  5. Enter the name of the layout for which you want to assign the search term. All the layouts related to search results are listed on the layout page. Click on the layout name. The Edit Layout page opens.
  6. Click Search Terms to open the search term tab and assign similar search terms to the selected layout.
  7. In the Search terms table, specify one or more search terms:
    1. In the Search Term column, type the search term. When customers search your site using this search term, this layout will be displayed instead of the default search results page. Include all variations of the term that you expect customers to use. For the layout to be assigned, the customer's search term must be an exact match to the search terms that you specify.
    2. You can enter the number of search terms in the column and hit enter. The entered search term is listed at the bottom of the Search term column.
Note: If you enter a search term that exceeds 228 characters, the user interface displays an error message.

Results

All the assigned search terms are added for the selected layout.
