Dynamic Tagging

Learn how to use dynamic tagging in BigFix SaaS Remediate to automatically label devices based on attributes, simplify device organization, and enhance targeting precision.

Overview

Dynamic Tagging in BigFix SaaS Remediate allows administrators to automatically tag devices based on their attributes or properties. Unlike manual tagging, dynamic tags are assigned through automated rules and are continuously updated as device data changes. This significantly reduces the manual effort required to organize devices, particularly in environments where new endpoints are frequently added or modified.

This feature is similar to the concept of Automatic Computer Group and is fully integrated with the existing tag usage across Device Explorer.

Key Benefits

  • Automation: Automatically tag devices using defined criteria—no manual updates needed.
  • Consistency: Tags stay up to date as devices change over time.
  • Improved visibility: Understand device context through rule-based tagging.
  • Granular permissions: Role-based access honors tag-based visibility rules.
  • Streamlined operations: Use dynamic tags for deployments, filtering, and reporting.

Permissions

  • Admins can create, edit, and delete dynamic tags.
  • Other users can view and use dynamic tags, but cannot modify or remove.

Creating a Dynamic Tag

Admins can create a dynamic tag by following these steps:

  1. Access Tags page

    1. On the Device Explorer Overview page, navigate to the Top 5 Tags section.
Device Explorer - Top 5 devices by category
    2. Click View All to access the full list of tags.

  2. Access Tags page

    1. On the Tags page, click Create Tag icon.
      Create dynamic tag
    2. Enter a Tag Name (e.g., "Windows Devices").

  3. Set criteria for filter
    • Define property-based rules (for example OS Family contains "Windows").

    • All conditions must match (logical AND).

  4. Preview and verify the targeted devices filtered according to the set criteria.
  5. Click Create Tag.

The dynamic tag is created and listed on the Tags page. After few minutes, the associated device count appears for the created tag.

Editing or Deleting Dynamic Tags

Admins can:

  • Edit: Change the tag name or criteria.
  • Delete: Remove the tag.
Edit tag
  1. To edit a tag, from the list of tags on the Tags page, select the desired tag to edit.
Note: You can edit only one tag at a time.
  2. Click Edit Dynamic Tag.
  3. Make the necessary changes to the tag name or the filter criteria and click Update Tag.

After few minutes, the changes will reflect on the Tags page.
