Known issues and limitations

These are the known issues and limitations in BigFix DEX.

  1. In this release, only removable disks larger than 8GB are detected and reported to the DEX System. This threshold also applies to virtual drives mounted by some software installations as these are indistinguishable from genuine physical storage, an installation's virtual drive will only appear in the Disks and Partitions Inventory if it exceeds 8GB; smaller virtual drives will not be visible.
Note: No DEX metrics apply to these virtual drives in either case.
  2. BigFix DEX site is accessible to Master Operators only. NMOs to do have permisison to access the DEX site.
  3. It is not possible to change the default configuration for the monitored metrics and their thresholds, as well as the retention policy at the endpoint which is 30 days.
  4. The client setting _BESClient_Resource_AccelerateForPendingMessage must be set to '0' on every DEX client.
  5. The BigFix Scanner DEX Plugin being uninstalled and then reinstalled can cause the score to go below '0'.
  6. For all time-based graphs (both anomalies and metrics), the applied timezone depends on the selected data aggregation window:
    • If the aggregation window is ≥ 1 day (i.e., total time range ≥ 7 days), the endpoint timezone is used.
    • If the aggregation window is < 1 day (i.e., total time range < 7 days), the operator timezone is used.

      This behavior is not configurable.

  7. In the presence of persistent anomalies that continuously produce a score of 0 (for example, a partition free space constantly below the critical threshold), the reported anomaly count may differ depending on the aggregation window.

    Specifically:

When the aggregation window is ≥ 1 day (i.e., total time range ≥ 7 days), the anomaly count reported for the last 24 hours can differ from the anomaly count reported when the aggregation window is < 1 day (i.e., total time range < 7 days) for the same last 24-hour timeframe. This leads to inconsistent anomaly counts for the same period based solely on the selected aggregation window.

  8. Analysis to track scanner and DEX plugin scanner trace settings are not available for macOS devices.
  9. Fixlets to configure scanner and scanner plugin traces and settings are missing for macOS.
  10. Some inventory parameters might be shown as '0' on macOS.
  11. On Intel platforms with macOS Ventura Logon metrics are not available.
  12. On macOS endpoints, Event collection in macOS is heavily dependent on the Unified Logging System of the OS and its related performances. Due to this, at startup on slower platforms some events might be not reported due to the time taken to report or the additional action taken by the user to restart before our agent was able to collect the event.
  13. Out-of-the-box reports are owned by the first user who logs into the BigFix UI, and who can then reconfigure them and change their visibility. This limitation will be removed in the next release, making them read-only.
