Adding defining attributes within catalog entries

You can add defining attributes that are not contained within the Management Center attribute dictionary to catalog entries. You cannot use the Management Center attribute dictionary to manage attributes that are created within a catalog entry.

Procedure

  1. Open the Catalogs tool.
  2. Find the catalog entry that you want to add a defining attribute to.
  3. In the Search Results list view, right-click the catalog entry; then click Open to open the properties view for the catalog entry.
  4. Click the Defining attributes tab.
    All of the defining attributes that are currently contained in the selected catalog entry are listed in the Defining Attributes table.
  5. Click Create New Defining Attribute to open the properties view and specify information for the new defining attribute.
  6. In the General Attribute Information section:

    Name Specify a name for the new defining attribute. This field is language-sensitive.
    Type Specify the data type for the new attribute. You can specify any of the following data types for the attribute:
    • Text
    • Whole number
    • Decimal number
    Description Type a description for the new defining attribute. This field is language-sensitive.
  7. In the Attribute Values section, click Create New Defining Attribute Value to add a defining attribute value to the new attribute.
    Note: The Attribute Values section is displayed only after you select the data type from the Type list in the General Attribute Information section.

    Sequence Specify the order in which to display objects. Numbers are displayed in ascending order.
    Value Specify a value for the attribute. Attribute values are based on the data type of the attribute, such as text, whole number, or decimal number. This field is language-sensitive.
  8. Click Save or Save and Close.
