Software Distribution

    - Setup
      The Wake-on-LAN Medic utility is a process that runs on the BigFix server. This utility manages Wake-on-LAN scheduling and keeps Last Man Standing computers awake.
    - Schedule Wake-on-LAN
      You can create and maintain scheduled wake-ups using the Schedule Wake-on-LAN Wizard. Scheduled wake-ups run on client local time and do not require the use of Actions or special router configurations to run.
    - Schedule wake from standby
      You can create and view Wake-from-Standby Scheduling Fixlets using the Schedule Wake-from-Standby Wizard. A computer scheduled to Wake-from-Standby awakens itself at the designated time. This does not require any hardware or network configuration, and is useful for computers that cannot be awakened using WoL.
    - Wake-from-standby tasks
      Wake-from-Standby tasks allow computers to wake themselves at a scheduled time using the Windows Task Scheduler, without requiring Wake-on-LAN hardware or network configuration. Use the Schedule Wake-from-Standby wizard to create and manage these tasks.

      - Last Man Standing
        Last Man Standing (LMS) ensures that computers in a subnet can be awakened using the Wake-on-LAN feature. However, LMS computers must be running all the time, so you must select only one or two computers in a subnet for this designation. When choosing which computers to designate as LMS, select a type of computer that is likely to be running all the time, such as servers.
      - WoL forwarders
        Wake-on-LAN Forwarders (WoLFs) are BigFix Agent computers that forward Wake-on-LAN packets to other computers in the same subnet. There must be at least one powered-on WoLF in a subnet to wake other computers in the subnet.
      - Wake by Magic Packet
        Power Management includes tasks for enabling and disabling Wake-from-Standby by Magic Packet, which configures Windows network adapter settings to allow a targeted Wake-on-LAN broadcast packet to wake a computer from standby.

Configuration node

Configure Last Man Standing Fixlets, Wake-on-LAN Forwarders, and Wake from Standby by Magic Packet to maintain endpoint availability and reduce power consumption in complex enterprise networks.

The Configuration node in the BigFix Power Management navigation tree provides access to advanced wake-up infrastructure settings. Use these options to ensure that Wake-on-LAN operations succeed across your network, and that at least one powered-on computer is always available in each subnet to relay wake packets.

The Configuration node contains the following subnodes:

Manage Last Man Standing: Designates specific computers in each subnet as Last Man Standing (LMS) endpoints that remain powered on to act as wake agents. The Last Man Standing Selection Wizard and associated Fixlets help you identify and configure suitable candidates.
Manage Wake-on-LAN Forwarders: Designates BigFix Agent computers to forward Wake-on-LAN packets to other computers in the same subnet. Having multiple forwarders per subnet increases the reliability of scheduled wake operations.
Wake-from-Standby by Magic Packet: Configures Windows network adapter settings so that a targeted Wake-on-LAN broadcast packet can wake a computer from standby. This is required for computers that must respond to directed wake requests rather than general broadcast packets.
