Configuring DEX Operator Permissions and Access

Provide Non-Master Operators (NMOs) with the necessary site visibility and role permissions to view assigned devices and manage surveys within BigFix DEX.

BigFix DEX supports access for both Master Operators (MOs) and Non-Master Operators (NMOs):
  • Master Operators (MOs): Have unrestricted access to all DEX pages, survey features, and endpoints.
  • Non-Master Operators (NMOs): When a new Global Setting is defined in DEX, a new custom action is generated and deployed to endpoints. Currently, previous custom actions associated with older global settings are not automatically stopped. Administrators must manually locate and stop/close older, obsolete Global Setting actions in the BigFix Console to avoid having unnecessary open actions running across target endpoints.

Prerequisite: For NMO access to function, the operator must have explicit visibility granted to the BigFix DEX custom site.

Required Permissions for Survey Management

To grant NMO users access to the survey workflow, configure their role in BFUI (User & Role Management) or the BigFix Console with the following permissions:
Permission Type Description
DEX Custom Site Visibility Site Access Grants access to the DEX site, survey list, and related pages
Custom Content Site Permission Allows the NMO to create, edit, and delete surveys.
Can Create Actions Action Permission Enables deploying surveys and stopping self-created actions.
Show Other Operators' Actions Action Permission Allows viewing actions created by other operators.
Stop Other Operators' Actions Action Permission Allows stopping actions created by other operators.

Assigning Permissions to NMO Roles

  1. Grant site visibility:

In BigFix Console or BFUI, assign visibility to the configured DEX Custom Site for the intended NMO operator or role.

  2. Configure role permissions:

Navigate to User & Role Management in BFUI (or Roles in the BigFix Console) and select the NMO role.

  3. Enable custom content & action rights:

In the permission settings, grant Custom Content rights along with Can Create Actions, Show Other Operators' Actions, and Stop Other Operators' Actions as required by your administrative policy.

  4. Save and verify:

Save the role changes. Log in as the NMO user to confirm the survey list is visible and endpoints are appropriately filtered.
