Kiosk device policy

Configure and deploy a Kiosk Device Policy for ChromeOS using the Modern Client Management dashboard.

Before you begin

Ensure you have administrative access to the Modern Client Management console.

Procedure

  1. Define the Initial Policy Setup:
    • Policy Name: Enter a unique identifier.
    • Description: Summarize the policy's purpose.
    • Operating System: Select ChromeOS.
    • Assign Policy to Site: Select the management site (e.g., MASTER_ACTION_SITE).
  2. Configure Kiosk Settings for communication and security.
    1. Set Alerting & Contact Info by selecting delivery modes and entering support email/phone numbers.
    2. Configure URL Blocking by listing restricted sites (up to 1,000) and adding exceptions for company domains.
    3. Define Input & Apps by specifying allowed keyboard layouts (e.g., xkb:us::eng) and force-allowing specific Chrome Apps.
  3. Establish Power Management behaviors.
    Setting AC Power Battery Power
    Idle Action Sleep/Shutdown/Logout Sleep/Shutdown/Logout
    Lid Closed Sleep/Do Nothing Sleep/Do Nothing
  4. Set Accessibility Features.
    Choose between Allow the user to decide or Enable/Disable for features like:
    • Spoken Feedback
    • High Contrast Mode and Large Cursor
    • On-screen Keyboard and Dictation
  5. Finalize the policy.
    Click Save at the bottom of the dashboard. The policy is now ready for deployment.

What to do next

Important: To prevent any action while the device is idle, select "Do nothing" in the idle action dropdowns rather than leaving the timeout field empty.
