Working with previous file versions
In addition to checking your files in and out, you can also use the client component of TSO Client to compare previous file versions and view the version history (version tree).
Comparing your file with the previous version
Procedure
To compare a file with the previous version, do these
steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu,
type
4. - On the left side of the Dataset Action panel under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.

On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
actions:
- Type dp next to the file name. The file is immediately compared to the previous version.
- Type s next to the file name and press Enter. The File Actions panel displays. Type dp on the option line and press Enter.
The file differences display.
Viewing the version history (Version Tree)
Procedure
To view the version history by using the version tree,
do these steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu, type 4.
- On the left side of the Dataset Action panel, under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.

On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
actions:
- Type vt next to the file name.
- Type s next to the file name. The File Actions panel displays. Type vt on the option line and press Enter.
Results
Browsing a previous version
Procedure
To browse a previous version of a file by using the version
tree, do these steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu, type 4.
- On the left side of the Dataset Action panel, under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.

On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
steps
- Type vt next to the file name.
- Type s next to the file name. The File Actions panel displays. Type vt on the option line and press Enter.
- Type b beside the version you want
to browse and press Enter.If the version you select is empty, TSO Client displays the message The selected version is empty.
Copying a previous version
Procedure
To copy a previous version of a file by using the version
tree, do these steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu, type 4.
- On the left side of the Dataset Action panel, under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.

On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
steps
- Type vt next to the file name.
- Type s next to the file name. The File Actions panel displays. Type vt on the option line and press Enter.
- Type c beside the version you want
to copy, type a new member name in the File Name field,
and press Enter.The new member name should conform to these rules:
- The name length must be eight characters or less.
- The name should contain only the following characters: a-z A-Z 0-9 @ # $
- The name should not start with 0-9.
If the name you type contains invalid characters or the first character is 0-9, TSO Client displays the message Invalid name. When the file is copied successfully, TSO Client displays the message Select version is saved. - Press PF3 to return to the View
Files List panel.This list now shows the newly copied member.
Comparing two file versions
Procedure
To compare any two versions of a file by using the version
tree, do these steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu, type 4.
- On the left side of the Dataset Action panel, under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.

On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
actions:
- Type vt next to the view-private file name. The Version Tree panel displays immediately.
- Type s next to the file name, and press Enter. The File Actions panel displays. Type vt on the option line and press Enter. The Version Tree panel displays.
- Type s next to the two file versions
that you want to compare.The differences between the two files display.
Displaying version information
Procedure
To display the information about one version in the version
tree, do these steps:
- On the option line of the TSO Client Main Menu, type 4.
- On the left side of the Dataset Action panel, under DSLIST, type s to select a data set.
-
On the left side of the View Files List panel, under the ClearCase® file name, do one of the following
actions:
- Type vt next to the file name.
- Type s next to the file name. The File Actions panel displays. Type vt on the option line and press Enter.
- Type i beside the version you want
to check and press Enter.The new panel should pop up to display version details.
- Press PF3 to return to the Version Tree panel.
