Targets in marketing activities

Use a target to personalize a web or dialog activity so that the activity applies only to certain customers. To include a target in an activity, drag the target from the palette into the activity flow in the Activity Builder. Place the target to the left of the action element that you want to target.

The following table describes the available targets for web and dialog activities. Click any target to get details and an example.

Targets customers who belong or do not belong to specific customer segments, for example:
  • Customers who belong to the Registered Customers customer segment.
  • Customers who belong to either the Big Spenders or the Male Customers over 40customer segments.
  • Customers who do not belong to the Preferred Customers customer segment.

Target: Shopping CartShopping Cart

Targets customers whose current shopping cart contents meet certain criteria, for example:
  • Customers whose shopping cart contains catalog entry A.
  • Customers whose shopping cart contains more than $50 of catalog entries from category B.
  • Customers whose shopping cart contains catalog entries that total more than $100.

Target: Purchase HistoryPurchase History

Targets customers whose purchase history in your store meets certain criteria, for example:
  • Customers who placed 5 or more orders with the store.
  • Customers who purchased either catalog entry A or catalog entry B.
  • Customers who purchased more than $100 of catalog entries from category A in the last 90 days.

Target: Current PageCurrent Page

Targets customers who are currently viewing a store page that meets certain criteria, for example:
  • Customers who are currently viewing the product details page for product A.
  • Customers who are currently viewing a page with a page URL containing a specified parameter name and value.
  • Customers who are currently viewing the search results from a keyword search for drills.

Target: Catalog Browsing BehaviorCatalog Browsing Behavior

Targets customers who browsed certain parts of your store catalog, for example:
  • Customers who browsed category A at any time.
  • Customers who browsed category A at least three times in the last week.
  • Customers who browsed catalog entries from both category A and category B.

Target: Online BehaviorOnline Behavior

Targets customers whose recorded activities on your store meet certain criteria. For example:
  • Customers who searched the site using the keyword television within the last week.
  • Customers who visited store pages with page URLs containing certain data.

To target customers based on online behavior that is related to catalog browsing, use the target in the previous row, Catalog Browsing Behavior.

Target: External Site ReferralExternal Site Referral

Targets customers who entered the current session on your site from a link on an external site, for example:
  • Customers who clicked a link to your site from your affiliate site, affiliatestoreofmine.com.
  • Customers who clicked a link to your site following a search for digital cameras on the Google site.

Target: Cookie ContentsCookie Contents

Targets customers whose computers have a cookie from your site that contains certain data, for example, a ZIP code that indicates that the customer lives in a certain geographical area. Web activities

Target: Social Commerce ParticipationSocial Commerce Participation

Targets customers who participated in any social commerce activity, or a specific activity, on your site. Example: A customer created a product review with at least a three-star rating in the Televisions category. Web activities

Target: Day/TimeDay/Time

Specifies the days of the week or times of day that an activity is active. Examples are:
  • Make an activity active only on Saturday mornings from 8 AM to 10 AM for the early bird sale.
  • In an activity with two paths, make path A active on Monday through Thursday, and make path B active Friday through Sunday.

Target: Promotion CheckerPromotion Checker

Checks a catalog entry that a customer is viewing to determine whether the catalog entry qualifies for a promotion that you specify. Web activities

Target: Search Criteria and ResultSearch Criteria and Result

Targets customers who selected specific search filters, or whose search results include specific catalog entries. For example:
  • Customers who search by using specific filters such as Brand or Category.
  • Customers whose search results include specific catalog entries such as catalog entry A.
