Creating sales categories
If you are changing the display structure of your sales catalog, you might want to add a sales category.
Note: If
you are creating a category that needs to be updated frequently to
change the catalog entries that are assigned to the category, consider
creating a rule-based sales category. For more information, see Rule-based sales categories.
Before you begin
- Creating a category by copying an existing master category or sales category. When you copy a master category, catalog entries (products, SKUs, bundles, and kits) are not copied. When you copy a sales category, the catalog entry links are also copied.
- Creating a sales category.
Procedure
- Open the Catalogs tool.
- Create a sales category by using one of these methods:
- To copy an existing sales category, go to the category in
the explorer tree:
- On the explorer tree, right-click the category; then, click Show Subcategories on the menu. The Categories list view displays.
- On the explorer tree or list view, right-click the category that you want to copy; then, on the menu, click Copy.
- On the list view, right-click anywhere; then, on the menu, click Paste.
The Category Properties view displays.
- To create a category in a sales catalog:
- From the explorer filter, select Sales Catalog Categories.
- On the explorer tree, right-click a category; then, click New
Sales Category to create a subcategory. To create a new
top category, on the explorer tree, right-click a sales catalog; then,
click New Sales Category, or from the File menu
click .
The Category Properties view displays.
- To copy an existing sales category, go to the category in
the explorer tree:
- Click the Manage Category tab.
- Optional:
Expand the Object Properties section.
This section is read-only and provides information if your company uses the following features:
- Extended sites business model
- Workspaces
Property Description Associated store The store that the asset belongs to: - If workspaces are enabled
- If your store is an extended sites store
Change Made In The name of workspace, task group, or task, where the object is changed. Workspace The name of the workspace that the task is associated with. This field is read-only. Task Group The name of the task group that the task is associated with. This field is read-only. Description A description of the task. This field is read-only. - From the Manage Category tab, expand General
Category Information. Complete the following information:
Property Description Code The language independent category identifier. Name The name of the category. This field can be edited in multiple languages. Short description Type a brief description of the category. Long description Type a detailed description, if applicable. You can enter HTML code in this field. If you choose to specify HTML code, you should receive this source code from your developers. Before you paste HTML code into the field, you must select Source in the editor toolbar. For more information about rich text editors, see Rich text editor (CKEditor).
Keyword Type one or more keywords, which are separated by a comma and a space that describe the contents of the Web page. Some Internet search engines use these keywords to determine whether your page satisfies a search query. This field can be edited in multiple languages. Parent category (master catalog) The category to which an object such as a category, product, or SKU belongs, or the catalog to which a top category belongs. - Expand the Display section. Complete the following information:
Property Description Display to customers Select this check box to indicate that customers can view this category in the storefront. Thumbnail Type the path to the thumbnail image and the name of the image, such as images/shirt.jpg. Full image Type the path to the full-size image and the name of the image, such as images/shirt.jpg. - Click Save; then click Close.
