Action: Specify Top Search Result
Use this action in a search rule to elevate specific catalog entries to display at the top of the search results list.
The following shows an example in the search rule builder:
You can specify any number of catalog entry as a top search result, as shown in the following
sample screen capture:
Add the catalog entries to the Catalog entries table in the order
that you want them to be listed at the top of the search results.
When a customer submits a search:
- If all the catalog entries in the table have equal relevance to the customer's search, the order you specify in the table is used in the search results.
- If certain catalog entries in the table are more relevant to the customer's search, those catalog entries are listed first in the search results, regardless of the order you specify in the table.
Notes:
- When shoppers select specific catalog entries to exclude from search results, they do not appear in search results, even if specified in this action.
- The action can be configured to display products, items or both. If your default store behavior is to exclude items from the search result, the items configured in this action are not displayed.
- In rare cases, the catalog entries configured might not appear at the top of the search result. In this case, you must change the default boost factor for the top search results.
Guidelines for using this action
When setting
up this action, you must:
- Ensure that the catalog entries that you want to promote are meant to appear at the top of the search results.
- Consider using this action as a complement to the Change Search Result Order action, providing convenience benefits such as not needing to form differing boost factors, if you already know which catalog entries you want to promote. In addition to changing the display order of the search result, you can also manipulate the search result. That is, you can add catalog entries to the top of the search results that otherwise would not appear in the shopper's initial search results.
