IBM Management Center for WebSphere Commerce
The IBM Management Center for WebSphere Commerce, or Management Center, is a suite of tools to support store management, merchandising, and marketing tasks for business users (Sellers, Marketing Managers, Product Managers, Catalog Managers, and others).
Marketing tool
Use the Marketing tool in Management Center to create and manage marketing campaigns and other store content, excluding catalog content. You can use the extensive precision marketing features in the tool to deliver targeted marketing messages to customers.
Managing search rules
Search rules provide a means to deliver customized search results and ordering when customers search the storefront.
Triggers in search rules
The Customer Submits Search trigger is always used when creating search rules using the Search Rule Builder. This trigger indicates that a customer has entered and submitted search terms in the storefront.

        Creating a search rule
        Create a search rule to deliver customized search results and ordering. You can also define targets in search rules to specify which customers see your search rules. Creating search rules ensures that targeted search results are seen by the right customers.
        Search rule templates
        Search rule templates are starting points from which business users can build search rules. You can choose from one of the standard search rule templates supplied with the Management Center, or you can create your own custom search rule templates.
        Triggers in search rules
        The Customer Submits Search trigger is always used when creating search rules using the Search Rule Builder. This trigger indicates that a customer has entered and submitted search terms in the storefront.
        Trigger: Customer Submits Search
        Use this trigger in a search rule to begin or continue the rule when a customer performs a search in the storefront. This trigger enables the action building blocks used in search rules to influence search results in the storefront, such as specifying the top search results or changing the search results order.
        Targets in search rules
        Use a target to personalize a search rule so that the rule applies only to certain customers. To include a target in a rule, drag the target from the palette into the flow in the Search Rule Builder. Place the target to the left of the action element that you want to target.
        Actions in search rules
        Actions define what to do, based on the previous sequence of triggers and, optionally, targets in the search rule flow. To include an action in a search rule, drag the action from the palette into the work area of the Search Rule Builder.
        Testing a search rule in store preview
        Use the store preview in Management Center to test the effects of search rules on search results. You can also view a search rule summary report that lists the search rules that are applied to a particular search keyword you use during testing. Use the test results to fine tune your search rules.
        Example: Fine-tuning search rule ranking factors using store preview data
        In store preview, you can see the relevancy scores that the search engine assigns to each catalog entry listed in search results. By understanding these relevancy scores, you can adjust ranking criteria to reorder search results in a search rule that uses the Change Search Result Order action. You can also use store preview to see the effect of your adjustments on the relevancy scores of catalog entries.
        Example: Promoting or excluding products using inventory data
        In this example, you want to create a search rule by using inventory data to promote overstock products, or exclude out-of-stock products.
        Search rules
        You can create search rules to influence the ordering and contents of search results on your site. Search rules are typically used to promote specific catalog entries by displaying them on the first page of the search results, or to order catalog entries according to a specific attribute, such as price.
        Search rule evaluation
        You can schedule multiple search rules at the same time for a specific keyword, or for all keywords, or a combination of both. If so, the search rules are evaluated and run in a specific sequence.

        Search rule experiments are managed by Marketing Managers. They are used to test the effectiveness of search rules.

Triggers in search rules

The Customer Submits Search trigger is always used when creating search rules using the Search Rule Builder. This trigger indicates that a customer has entered and submitted search terms in the storefront.

The following table describes the Customer Submits Search trigger. Click the trigger to get details and an example.

Customer Submits Search	A customer searches for something in your store. All search rules start with the Customer Submits Search trigger.

Phrases (multiple term support)

The following scenarios are supported by default for multiple phrases as search terms:

Search rules containing the starts with, ends with, or contains matching rules do not support phrases. To enable phrase support for these operators, you must customize WebSphere Commerce search to meet your business requirements.
Search rule triggers containing phrases (multiple words space delimited not surrounded with quotation marks) are treated as exact matches. Do not include quotation marks for exact matches in triggers.
