Guest mode configiguration
Guest Mode allows your organization to set up shared devices so that temporary users (guests) can access specific apps without needing their own account or full device access. Think of it like a "visitor pass" for your company's shared tablets or phones.
Guest Mode creates a limited, temporary session on a shared device. Guests can only use the apps you've chosen for them, and their session automatically ends after a set time — keeping your devices secure and ready for the next user.
Setting Up Guest Mode
Guest Mode settings are located inside the Shared Device Policy section WebUI.
-
Enable/Disable Guest Mode: Turn Guest Mode on or off for your shared devices
-
Assigned Apps: Choose which apps guests are allowed to use (e.g., Microsoft Teams, Outlook)
-
Maximum Session Duration: How long a guest session can last before it automatically ends (e.g., 60 minutes)
-
Idle Timeout: If the device sits unused for this long, the session ends (e.g., 15 minutes)
-
Session Warning: A heads-up notification before the session ends (e.g., 60 seconds before timeout)
-
Clear Data on Logout: Automatically removes all guest activity and personal data when the session ends
-
Session Extension: Guest sessions cannot be extended. Once the time is up, the session ends. This is intentional to keep shared devices available and secure.
How It Works
-
Admin sets up Guest Mode — You enable Guest Mode in the Shared Device Policy and pick which apps guests can use.
-
Policy is sent to devices — The settings are automatically pushed to all shared devices covered by that policy.
-
Guest starts a session — A temporary user picks up the device and begins using the allowed apps.
-
Session auto-manages itself — The device tracks idle time and total session time. It warns the guest before logging them out.
-
Session ends cleanly — When time is up (or the guest logs out), all personal data is wiped from the device.
- Key Benefits
-
-
Security — Guest data is automatically cleared, so nothing personal is left behind
-
Control — Only the apps you approve are available to guests
-
Convenience — No manual cleanup needed between guest sessions
-
Availability — Automatic timeouts ensure devices don't stay locked by inactive sessions
-
-
Guest Mode is part of the Shared Device Policy — it doesn't affect devices managed under other policies
-
Existing Shared Device Policy features (like regular user mode) continue to work as before
-
You can update the list of allowed apps at any time through the admin console
