MCM Device Correlation Issues
Troubleshooting MCM device correlation issues in BigFix WebUI.
Problem
- Some Windows and macOS devices are not correlating correctly in BigFix MCM and appear as separate entries in the BigFix WebUI.
- The Last Report Time for the MCM representation and Native BES Agent are different.
- Devices that were previously correlated sometimes become uncorrelated.
Cause
-
The correlation process in BigFix MCM relies on the MAC address.
-
If a device switches between Wi-Fi and Ethernet, the MAC address changes.
-
MCM and the BES Agent check in on different schedules, so their recorded MAC addresses may temporarily be out of sync.
-
This leads to a scenario where the same device appears correlated at times and uncorrelated at others.
Solution
- Manually Refresh Both Representations
- Send a refresh command to both the MCM representation and the Native BES Agent representation to force an update.
- This ensures that both analyses report the same MAC address when the correlation process runs again.
-
Wait for Automatic Synchronization
- Correlation will restore automatically when both MCM and BES Agent analyses update with the new MAC address. Once both representations report the same MAC address, BigFix MCM will merge them in BigFix WebUI.
- Expected Behavior
-
- When a device changes its network interface, there will be a temporary period where MCM and BES Agent report different MAC addresses.
- Once both analyses update and shows the same MAC address, the correlation process will correctly re-link the representations.
