Apple enrollment issues — HTTP 401 Error

Problem

During Apple device enrollment, users receive an HTTP Error 401 when:
  • Enrolling via Chrome browser on Apple devices.
Android and Windows device enrollments using the same browser completes successfully without errors.

Cause

  • Browser issues: Apple enrollment process in non-Safari browsers sometimes leads to failed authentication and an HTTP 401 error.

Workaround/Solution

  • Use Safari Browser for Apple Enrollments

    Use the Safari browser on iOS or macOS when enrolling Apple devices. Safari handles Apple-specific certificate flows and MDM redirects reliably.
