  - Express installation of AppScan 360° on a single virtual machine
    Express install allows you to test AppScan 360° with a limited configuration for testing AppScan 360° prior to a full install. It is essentially a "proof-of-concept" (PoC) install.
  - Custom installation of AppScan 360° on a single virtual machine
    Custom install allows you to test AppScan 360° with a complete configuration; you can use this installation mode for a production level deployment of AppScan 360°.

AppScan 360° users can enable automatic updating of the SCA vulneratility database at installation or configure manual updating.

Interactive monitoring
Using an agent installed on your application, AppScan 360° identifies security vulnerabilities in your application during runtime by monitoring all interactions, both legitimate and malicious. The process is "passive," in the sense that IAST does not send its own tests, and can therefore run indefinitely.
Software Composition Analysis
Use Software Composition Analysis (SCA) to scan for security vulnerabilities in open source and third-party packages used by your code. SCA includes Intelligent Finding Analytics (IFA) and Intelligent Code Analytics (ICA).
Static analysis
Use static analysis (SAST) to scan for security vulnerabilities in web and desktop applications. Static analysis includes Intelligent Finding Analytics (IFA) and Intelligent Code Analytics (ICA).
Results
The Scans and Sessions page lists the scans under the categories DAST, SAST, SCA, and IAST, where you can view your scan results, including scan statistics. AppScan Model Context Protocol (MCP) server
The AppScan MCP server integrates HCL AppScan 360° directly with AI-powered development environments and agents. By implementing the Model Context Protocol (MCP), this server allows LLMs (such as Claude or models running in VS Code) to securely access your security data—including SAST, DAST, SCA, and IAST results—to help you triage issues, analyze findings, and automate workflows using natural language.

Single VM installation of AppScan 360°

Single VM installation provides a self-contained deployment of AppScan 360° for smaller environments where high concurrency is not required, or as a foundation for planning subsequent distributed installations. This installation method is designed to get your environment up and running quickly.

Overview

The Single VM installation guides you through the setup process with a streamlined set of configuration choices.

Single VM installation supports two modes:

Express Mode — A simplified, proof-of-concept (POC) installation with limited configuration options.
Custom Mode — A fully configurable installation suitable for production use.

Note: Single VM installation also supports offline and air-gapped environments. An internet connection is required only to download and activate the license.

The AppScan 360° single VM setup script prompts you with a series of questions to configure your environment. Review the following information before starting the installation:
