v2.1.7+Library overview

The Library is a database-first exploration area in the Design section of the UI that enables you to browse, search, create, edit, and manage all item definitions without rendering a visual canvas.

Workspace canvases in the Graphical Designer render graphical nodes and dependency arrows by loading item definitions into an in-memory view. The Library bypasses that rendering layer and queries definition data directly from the storage microservice, making it fast to navigate and operate on large automation environments without opening a workspace.

Database changes and workspace synchronization

Changes made in the Library, including creating, editing, or deleting item definitions, are committed directly to the database. These changes do not automatically propagate to any open canvas workspace. To bring database changes into an open workspace, perform a Workspace Merge. For more information, see Managing your workspaces.

Security and access control

Access Control Lists (ACLs) and security roles apply in the Library exactly as they do across the rest of the UI and the Orchestration CLI. The Library does not grant additional permissions beyond what your security role authorizes. For details on security roles and folder-level ACLs, see Managing security access.

Supported item types

The Library provides access to all definition types stored in the system database:

  • Calendars
  • Credentials
  • Endpoints
  • Event sources
  • Folders
  • Human task queues
  • Resources
  • Run cycle groups
  • Task templates
  • Variable tables
  • Workflows
  • Workstations
