Preserving the destination version

The Merge Manager checks out the destination version as the target of the merge. It preserves the contents of a destination version that is also a contributor to the merge by writing the output of the merge to a temporary file target. The suffix .contrib is added to the path of the target. (If the merge target cannot be overwritten, the merge saves its work in a view-private file with a .merge suffix.)
