BWB 1.0.0

The BigFix Team is pleased to announce the release of version 1.0.0 of BigFix Workflow Builder.

The main reasons to upgrade to this release are as follows:

Overview

BigFix Workflow Builder is a new application in the BigFix UI that lets you automate multi-step device tasks in a drag-and-drop visual editor — without writing a complete Fixlet or Task. You chain predefined steps, such as checking free disk space, evaluating a Relevance expression, managing a service, or installing a package, into a single workflow that runs on your target devices through the BigFix Platform execution engine. Unlike a Fixlet or Task that is simply reported as not relevant, a workflow reports the exact line at which execution stopped on each device, so you always know why it did not continue. Version 1.0 targets Windows devices with BigFix Agent 9.5.11 or later.

New Features
  • Visual workflow editor — Build workflows on a canvas with drag-and-drop steps, node configuration panels with built-in Help, auto layout, zoom, and node lock controls.
  • Action library with 18 predefined steps across six categories: BigFix (Action Script, Relevance, Script), File System (File Copy, Directory, Dir Exists, Disk Space, File Exists, Path Exists), Flow Control (Stop, Switch), Maintenance (Disk Cleanup), Operating System (OS, Service, Service State), and Package (Package Exists, Package Install, Package Uninstall).

  • Conditional branching — Split execution with the Switch step, using named branches, AND/OR condition combinations on saved step results, and an automatic default branch.

  • Live JSON editor — View and edit the workflow definition directly, and export or import workflows as JSON files to move them between environments.

  • Guided deployment wizard — Target devices by query, device group, or device list; configure user offers, pre/post messages, restart, and retry behavior; schedule with maintenance windows or custom time and day constraints; review everything in a summary before deploying.

  • Deployment monitoring — Track workflow deployments on a dedicated Deployments tab and drill into per-device results, configuration, and composition charts on the deployment details page.

  • Role-based access — Assign the application to users and roles through BigFix UI Identity Management, with feature levels controlled by standard platform permissions.
