Sending Oracle ZIP package to Oracle if required
BigFix Inventory does not upload or download any data from Oracle. If Oracle requests the data, contact your Oracle representative for information on how to send the Oracle ZIP package to Oracle.
Considerations on Oracle Java Software data collection
While discovering Oracle Java installations, BigFix Inventory relies on information in the 'release' file that is part of Oracle Java. BigFix Inventory does not execute Oracle Java main executable (java.exe or java) to get information about Oracle Java detailed version information. Instead, the java version is collected from the contents of the 'release' file. This is done because running java executables in your environment may pose a security risk and should be done in a controlled way taking into consideration the specifics of your environment.
In some specific cases, the release file may not contain detailed Oracle Java Detailed Version information. In such cases, this information is collected only by executing the main java executable ('java.exe -version' or 'java -version' commands). Therefore, Oracle might ask you to run that command on some Oracle Java installations, and you may use BigFix function (create a fixlet) to run that command for some of your Oracle Java installations, depending on the specifics of your environment.
