DEX Anomalies
DEX anomaly refers to unexpected or unusual behavior or performance issues on user endpoints that deviate from normal patterns. These anomalies are typically identified using metrics and behavioral baselines collected by the DEX agent (like response times, resource usage, disk performance, app crashes, etc.).
In more practical terms, a DEX anomaly can include:-
Sudden CPU or memory spikes on an endpoint
-
Unexpected disk latency increases
-
A specific application taking longer than usual to start or crashing frequently
-
Network delays impacting user experience
-
Device performance dropping below normal baselines
Why anomalies matter:
DEX anomalies are critical for IT teams because they:
-
Help detect end-user issues proactively
-
Enable automated remediation or manual intervention before users report problems
-
Support root cause analysis and long-term trend monitoring
Example in BigFix DEX:
If the DEX On-Demand Scanner or continuous monitoring detects that a device’s boot time increased by 80% compared to its usual baseline, it may flag this as an anomaly, triggering alerts or further diagnosis workflows.
