Power Management Setup Guide
Power Management is policy-driven software for distributed environments. Built on BigFix technology, it allows you to apply conservation policies infrastructure-wide, while providing the granularity to apply power management policies to a single computer.
Setup and configuration
Configure BigFix Power Management by enabling power tracking, setting up Wake-on-LAN, defining power consumption assumptions, and configuring historical reporting — all from the Setup and Configuration node in the BigFix console.
Manage assumptions
Customize power consumption calculations in BigFix Power Management by overriding default values for cost per kWh, carbon emissions, hardware power draw, and office hours using the Manage Assumptions dashboard. Accurate assumptions produce more meaningful energy savings reports.
Global settings
Use the Global Settings dialog in BigFix Power Management to configure international currency and weight units for your deployment. These settings affect how energy costs and consumption values are displayed across all power reports and dashboards.

These settings determine when endpoints are expected to be active, allowing Power Management to accurately distinguish between in-hours and out-of-hours power consumption when calculating savings.
      - Hardware assumptions
        Define the system and monitor power draw for your endpoints in Active and Standby modes using Hardware Assumptions in BigFix Power Management. Overriding the default wattage values with figures measured from your actual hardware produces more accurate energy consumption and cost savings calculations.
    - Historical reporting
      Power Management supports tracking of historical power data trends and historical reporting groups. To use these features, install the BES Server Plugin Service, configure SOAP API credentials, and enable history tracking on a server.
    - Client-side dashboard
      The Client-side Dashboard provides individual power footprints. Power Management includes tasks in the navigation tree for enabling and disabling the client-side dashboard.
    - Enable wakeup
      The Enable Wakeup feature activates the Wake-on-LAN Medic Utility, which wakes computers according to a defined schedule and also sends wake-up requests to Last Man Standing computers. To set up the Wake-on-LAN Medic Utility, ensure that BESWolMedic.exe version 1.5.30 or later is used and that RESP API is correctly configured on a BigFix server version 9.0 or later to avoid network security warnings.
    - Remove previous version
      You can run the previous and current versions of Power Management simultaneously. However, the new version of Power Management uses different data collection techniques. When you remove the old version, your historical data is not transferred.
