Use Power Management to control, monitor, and manage conservation policies in your deployment.
Power Management Setup Guide
Power Management is policy-driven software for distributed environments. Built on BigFix technology, it allows you to apply conservation policies infrastructure-wide, while providing the granularity to apply power management policies to a single computer.
Setup and configuration
Configure BigFix Power Management by enabling power tracking, setting up Wake-on-LAN, defining power consumption assumptions, and configuring historical reporting — all from the Setup and Configuration node in the BigFix console.
Remove previous version
You can run the previous and current versions of Power Management simultaneously. However, the new version of Power Management uses different data collection techniques. When you remove the old version, your historical data is not transferred.

It includes features like managing power settings, tracking power usage, creating power policies, Wake-on-LAN capabilities, and PC Insomnia detection. BigFix Power Management now supports additional Windows and macOS versions.

    BigFix Power Management supports various versions of Windows and Mac operating systems, including Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows 11, and macOS 10.15. Note that Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 2003 have reached end of life, and BigFix no longer provides support for products that have reached their end of support date.

    Subscribe to the BES Power Management Fixlet site from the License Overview dashboard in the BigFix Management domain to gain access to the analyses, Fixlets, and tasks required to deploy and manage BigFix Power Management across your endpoints.
  - Setup and configuration
    Configure BigFix Power Management by enabling power tracking, setting up Wake-on-LAN, defining power consumption assumptions, and configuring historical reporting — all from the Setup and Configuration node in the BigFix console.
    - Power tracking
      Enable and configure Power Tracking in BigFix Power Management to measure how long endpoints spend in Active, Idle, Standby, and Off states — providing the data needed to calculate energy consumption, estimate savings, and generate power usage reports.
    - Manage assumptions
      Customize power consumption calculations in BigFix Power Management by overriding default values for cost per kWh, carbon emissions, hardware power draw, and office hours using the Manage Assumptions dashboard. Accurate assumptions produce more meaningful energy savings reports.
    - Historical reporting
      Power Management supports tracking of historical power data trends and historical reporting groups. To use these features, install the BES Server Plugin Service, configure SOAP API credentials, and enable history tracking on a server.
    - Client-side dashboard
      The Client-side Dashboard provides individual power footprints. Power Management includes tasks in the navigation tree for enabling and disabling the client-side dashboard.
    - Enable wakeup
      The Enable Wakeup feature activates the Wake-on-LAN Medic Utility, which wakes computers according to a defined schedule and also sends wake-up requests to Last Man Standing computers. To set up the Wake-on-LAN Medic Utility, ensure that BESWolMedic.exe version 1.5.30 or later is used and that RESP API is correctly configured on a BigFix server version 9.0 or later to avoid network security warnings.
    - Remove previous version
      You can run the previous and current versions of Power Management simultaneously. However, the new version of Power Management uses different data collection techniques. When you remove the old version, your historical data is not transferred.
      - Disable historical tracking
        The previous version of BigFix Power Management used a user-defined scheduled task in Windows to run the Store Historical Power Data process. If you previously set up this task, you must disable it after you remove the older Power Management Fixlet site.
      - Unsubscribe from site
        Unsubscribe from the previous BigFix Power Management Fixlet site as part of removing an older version. This step stops endpoints from receiving content from the old site and is required before removing the previous version's custom analyses.
      - Remove custom analyses
        The previous version of Power Management used a custom analysis to track power usage that was different for each console user. In the current version, tracking is done with a single analysis in the Fixlet site.
