To use the subst command to access snapshot views (Windows)
About this task
Assigning a snapshot view root directory to a drive letter with the subst command provides slightly better performance than making the snapshot view a shared directory. However, only shared directories are accessible through My Network Places or Network Neighborhood. (To assign your own view to a drive on a computer running Windows 98, you must use the subst command.)
Procedure
- Open a command shell.
- Enter the subst command with the
path to the view root directory for which you enabled sharing. For example:
subst Y: C:\library\pat_v1.4_cropcircle
This command maps the pat_v1.4_cropcircle directory to drive Y.
