About registering snapshot views

Snapshot view registration on Linux® and UNIX® systems

When you create a snapshot view, it is registered in the file .ccase_svreg in your home directory. When a snapshot view needs to be accessed, that file in your home directory is searched to find the path for the snapshot view root directory. If you did not create or have not updated the view that is being accessed, you must explicitly register the view.

If a snapshot view is not registered under your home directory and you try to perform HCL VersionVault operations from the snapshot view (for example, to check out a file), the view cannot be found. If you want to perform HCL VersionVault operations from this view, register the view. If you inadvertently delete or corrupt the .ccase_svreg file, you must regenerate information in it for each snapshot view that you use.

Snapshot view registration on Windows® systems

When you create or update a snapshot view or click a view shortcut in HCL VersionVault Windows Explorer, the snapshot view is registered in your computer registry. The HCL VersionVault integration with Windows® Explorer (running in VersionVault Windows Explorer and Windows® Explorer) recognizes as HCL VersionVault objects files and directories below a registered snapshot view.

If a snapshot view is not registered on your computer and you access files and directories under the view root directory through Network Neighborhood, the HCL VersionVault integration with Windows® Explorer does not recognize the files or directories as HCL VersionVault objects. For example, if you use Windows® Explorer to navigate to a team member's snapshot view on a different computer and right-click a file in the view, HCL VersionVault options are not available. Also, if you try to perform HCL VersionVault operations from an unregistered snapshot view, the view cannot be found.

To perform HCL VersionVault operations on the files and directories in a snapshot view that is not registered by you (for example, a team member's snapshot view), you must register the snapshot view. You can use VersionVault Windows Explorer or Windows® Explorer to register the snapshot view.
