Using a Windows™ user ID and password to log on to the SafeLinx Server

Rather than using a separate SafeLinx Client logon, you can use your Windows user ID and password credentials to log on to the SafeLinx Server. To use integrated logon, you must install the custom program component that supports it. This custom program component is available for Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7.

Before you begin

For Windows Vista and Windows 7, integrated logon support is included as part of the base installation and installation of a separate feature is not required. When you install the SafeLinx Client on Windows XP, you must choose the Custom program component labeled Windows integrated logon. If you already installed the SafeLinx Client without this support, run the Setup program again, choose Modify, and then select Windows integrated logon.

Procedure

After the custom program component is installed, enable it to use your Windows user ID and password to log on to the SafeLinx Server:
  1. Create a connection. For instructions, see Creating a SafeLinx Client connection.
  2. Right-click the icon that represents that connection, and select Properties.
  3. Click the Attributes page, and then click Use Windows user ID and password.
  4. Click OK.
Note: The two options Use Windows user ID and password and Prompt for user ID and password are mutually exclusive; if you select one of them, the other one is cleared automatically.

Results

On Windows Vista and Windows 7, the SafeLinx Client integrates its logon by using the Windows Pre-Logon Access Provider (PLAP) DLL. If you selected the options Start Connection when Windows starts and Use Windows user ID and password for a connection, users are presented with a new option to log on using the SafeLinx Client Credential Provider. To access the SafeLinx Client Credential Provider logon screen, from the Windows logon screen, a user clicks Switch User and then clicks the Network Logon option, next to the Windows Shut down button. When prompted, the user provides logon credentials, and the SafeLinx Client then initiates the VPN connection. After the connection succeeds, the SafeLinx Client passes the users credentials to the remote Windows system to complete logon.
