SafeLinx Clients
SafeLinx Clients can establish virtual private network (VPN) connections with mobile access services across various wireless and wireline network. SafeLinx Clients use these optimized, secure IP tunnels to communicate with resources on the internal network.

Using the SafeLinx Client on Windows
This section describes the use of the SafeLinx Client on Windows.
Starting a connection
When you create a connection, you can start it or create a shortcut to it.

SafeLinx Clients
SafeLinx Clients can establish virtual private network (VPN) connections with mobile access services across various wireless and wireline network. SafeLinx Clients use these optimized, secure IP tunnels to communicate with resources on the internal network.

    - Creating a connection
      After downloading and installing the SafeLinx Client, network connections can be defined and added.
    - Starting a connection
      When you create a connection, you can start it or create a shortcut to it.
      - Connecting on Windows™ to the SafeLinx Server
        After you establish and start network connections, you can connect your device to the SafeLinx Server.
    - Checking that applications are running before connecting
      You can configure the SafeLinx Client to check that specific programs are running, such as antivirus or personal firewall software, before allowing the connection to start.
    - Automatically starting applications after connecting
      The SafeLinx Client can be configured to start applications automatically after a connection is established. The number of applications which you can autostart is restricted to 16. In addition to specifying the application name, you can also configure any parameters with which you want the application started.
    - Importing and exporting configuration files
      You can export the configuration file that controls how a SafeLinx Client connects to the network and then import the file to other clients to reuse those settings.
    - Viewing connection status on Windows™ operating systems
      The Status window displays information about your connection to the SafeLinx Server:
    - Modifying connection properties
      After you create a connection, you can modify the connection configuration. From the Connections window, right-click the icon that represents the connection, and select Properties.
    - Using cross network roaming
      Using seamless cross-network roaming, the SafeLinx Client connection and applications persist when switching networks in a multi-network (both IP and non-IP) environment. Persistence allows switching physical networks, while preserving both the connection and application session.
    - Limitations of cross-network roaming
      A third-party developer can extend the SafeLinx Client for access to network connectivity events for a specific radio modem. This extended connectivity occurs by developing a custom dynamic link library (DLL) designed for that modem.
    - Sharing the SafeLinx Client connection on Windows™
      You can share the SafeLinx Client connection through Internet Connection Sharing so you can connect multiple local area network computers to your intranet. You can use just one computer with a SafeLinx Client connection.
    - Setting up a trace
      You can set up a trace to record diagnostic information for the SafeLinx Client. For example, if the modem does not initialize, set up a trace to capture every message sent during the initialization process. Store these messages in the trace file. HCL service personnel might request a trace file from you to help diagnose a problem.
    - Applying maintenance on Windows™ operating systems
      Links to code fixes, for entitled customers, are available from the HCL SafeLinx product support website.
    - Removing the SafeLinx Client from Windows
      The process varies slightly depending upon which version of Windows you are running.
  - Configuring clients with a configuration file
    The artour.ini file contains configuration information about your client and each connection you define. This file is modified when you create connections or modify their properties. It controls which fields and buttons are presented on the Connect window for each connection.

Starting a connection

When you create a connection, you can start it or create a shortcut to it.

Procedure

To connect to the SafeLinx Server either:
- Click or tap Start > Programs > SafeLinx Client then select the connection you want to use.
- Click or tap Start > Programs > SafeLinx Client > Connections to display the SafeLinx Connections window. This window contains an icon that represents each connection you defined. Double-click or tap twice on an icon to start that connection.
To create a shortcut to start the connection:
- On Windows, right-click the Connection icon and select Create shortcut.
  Note: The Start menu can hold a finite amount of shortcuts. If the SafeLinx Server shortcut is not displayed in the Start menu, the menu is already full. Delete an existing shortcut to create additional space.
