Assigning Authorised licenses

The Assigning Authorized Licenses feature ensures that software licenses are securely and accurately distributed to the correct users, machines, or entities. This process helps manage licensing compliance, prevents unauthorized use, and provides control over who can install and use the software.

In many environments, licenses are node-locked - meaning they are tied to specific devices or users, ensuring that only authorized entities can run the software. This feature facilitates the allocation of license features to deployments, assignment of these licenses to individual users or machines, and the download of license files required for activation.

Allocate Features

To install the software, users must allocate features and then download the license file. This license file is required to complete the installation on their systems.

Each deployment includes features identified by a Feature Name and Feature ID, linked to entitlements. These can be allocated using the Allocation field on the Deployment Details page.

• Minimum allocation is required before proceeding.
• Allocation must be in multiples of the configured value.
• Error message : "Allocation must be a multiple of the configured value."

Steps to Assign Licenses

Once allocation is done, the “Assign License” option becomes active. Assignments link the license to a specific user, entity, or machine, enforcing node-locked licensing.

Steps:

1. Click “Assign License.”
2. In the modal:
   • • Enter the name of the assignee.
     • Provide the fingerprint of the target system.
     • Select the corresponding entitlement from the dropdown.
3. Submit the form to create the assignment.

The Assignments panel will list all current license assignments.

Steps to Download License File

Once assignments are created:

• The Download License File option becomes available.
• Click to generate and download the license file.
• This file is required for software installation on the target system.
