Installing

- Backup and recover
  You can back up and recover the contents of your HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) installation.
- High availability and failover
  You can configure clustered HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy) servers, and agents for high availability. You can also configure agents and agent relays for failover.
- Setting up high-availability clusters
  To configure a high-availability cluster, you store shared files on network storage. Then, you configure multiple servers, set each server to access the same files and database, and configure a load balancer to distribute the traffic between the servers.
- Adding cold standby servers
  You can add cold standby servers to serve as a backup server or for disaster recovery. You must start the secondary server or servers when the active server fails, and network traffic is routed to the secondary servers.
- Server settings and configuration
  After you install HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy), you can modify the server configuration and configure more options.
- Setting user preferences
  Each user can specify display options for the server, including the language for the server and how the server shows times and dates.
- Agents and agent relay configuration
  After you install an agent for HCL DevOps Deploy (Deploy), you can modify its configuration or create an agent relay to facilitate communication to remote relays.

License types

After the evaluation period, you must acquire agent licenses before you can use all product features. There are two types of licenses; license for typical agents and license for z/OS agents.

The following license types are available.

Licensing for agents

Deploy agents require a license to be used to run deployments or import build artifacts. Note that the Deploy server does not require any licenses to connect to and interact with the Web UI.

You must configure Deploy to connect to a license server that contains the Authorized licenses. Licenses are applied to agents via the Web UI, or the server can be configured to automatically apply licenses to new agents as they connect. For information about how to apply licenses, see Applying HCL licenses to agents.

The licenses are released when the agents are deleted or unlicensed.

Licensing for z/OS® agents

Agents on z/OS® use different licensing than agents on distributed systems. However, the z/Linux™ agents use the same licensing as agents on distributed systems. Each agent requires a license, even if multiple agents are running on a single logical partition (LPAR). One agent is required on each environment, even if the environments are on a single z/OS sysplex.

To run deployments, agents on z/OS® must have the Authorized zos license.
