Creating a chart

You can create a chart to provide a graphical view of query results.

About this task

Use the HCL Compass Chart wizard to create a distribution, trend, or aging chart.

To create a chart:

Procedure

  1. Start the Chart wizard:
    • Click Query > New Chart. In the Choose Record Type window, select a record type and click OK.
    • Click the create chart icon on the HCL Compass toolbar.
The first page of the Chart wizard opens.
  2. Select a chart type and click Next.
When you select a chart type, information about that type is displayed.
  3. On the Parameters page, specify the parameters for the chart type and click Next.
  4. On the Labels page, enter labels for the chart and click Next.
  5. On the Display Type page, select a display type option and click Next.
Tip: Bar, stacked bar, and pie displays are helpful for distribution charts. Line and area displays are helpful for trend and aging charts. When you select a display type, a preview of how the display type affects the chart's appearance appears in the right pane.
  6. On the Style page, customize the appearance of your chart.
The options available correspond to the display type that you selected in the previous step. When you select a style option, a preview of how the option affects the chart's appearance appears in the right pane.
  7. Click Finish to run the query and create the chart.
  8. Click File > Save As to save the chart. By default, the chart is saved to your Personal Queries folder.

What to do next

You can use the Query editor page to filter the chart results, and then click File > Save to save the chart. Click Run Chart on the HCL Compass toolbar to rerun the query.
