Installing HCL Commerce Developer updates

HCL Commerce Developer updates are included with each HCL Commerce release and provide critical fixes and enhancements. You can use IBM Installation Manager the same tool used for the initial installation to apply or remove these updates. This guide covers two installation approaches: Interactive and Silent.

Installation methods

Interactive method
This method uses the IBM Installation Manager GUI to walk you through the update process. It is recommended for single-machine updates or scenarios that require custom configurations.
Steps include:
  • Adding the update package repository.
  • Following the wizard to apply updates.
  • Configuring settings such as database and search index updates.
Silent method
The silent method automates the update process using a response file, making it ideal for updating multiple systems or maintaining a standardized setup.
Steps include:
  • Creating or editing a response file.
  • Running the imcl.exe command to install updates without user interaction.
Note: Post-installation steps are the same as for the interactive method.
Choosing the right method
  • Use the Interactive Method if you're updating a single development environment, require customization, or prefer a graphical interface.
  • Use the Silent Method if you're updating multiple machines, need automation, or have a consistent setup across environments.
Pre- and Post-installation requirements
Both methods require similar preparation and follow-up steps, including:
  • Backing up your data.
  • Updating the database schema.
  • Verifying search functionality.
Note: Following these steps ensures a stable and functional HCL Commerce Developer environment.
