On-premises Upgrade

Upgrade your on-prem BigFix Mobile and MCM setup to the latest version for improved security, new features, and better support for Apple, Android, and Windows devices. Learn how to update the MDM Server and Plugins, meet key prerequisites like Plugin Portal and Podman, and complete the upgrade with minimal disruption.

Before you begin:
  • You must be a Master Operator to perform this task through WebUI.
  • You need Plugin Portal version 10.0.2 or later to update the MDM Plugins to the latest version. For all the latest features to work, you need Plugin Portal version 10.0.8 or later.
  • Remove Docker if present and install Podman. For detailed step-by-step instructions refer to Migrating from Docker to Podman.

Step 1: Update MDM Server

To update MDM Server:

  1. From the WebUI main page, click Apps > MCM.

  2. On the Modern Client Management page, click Admin.

  3. On the Admin page, navigate to MDM Server from the left panel. If a new update is available and applicable, the Update button will be enabled. Click Update to proceed.
  4. In the Target Devices section, click Edit Devices. A list of the available servers that need an update is displayed. Select the required servers and click OK.

  5. Review the number of servers selected and click Deploy. WebUI runs the update on the targeted servers.

Step 2: Update MDM Plugins

To update MDM Plugins:

  1. From the WebUI main page, click Apps > MCM.

  2. On the Modern Client Management page, click Admin.

  3. On the Admin page, from the left navigation, under MDM Plugins, click Update

  4. In the Target Devices section, click Edit Devices. A list of the available devices that need an update is displayed. Select the required devices and click OK.

  5. Review the number of servers selected and click Deploy. WebUI runs the update on the targeted servers.

Step 3: Add Credentials

If you are upgrading MCM to the latest version, to establish direct connectivity between WebUI and the MDM Server, you must upload the same set of server credentials and client credentials that were originally uploaded while installing MDM server and MDM Plugin respectively. Note: If you do not add appropriate credentials after upgrading, no connectivity between WebUI and MDM server for any of the Smart Group or Manage Capability functions.
