Use Power Management to control, monitor, and manage conservation policies in your deployment.
Power Management User's Guide
Power Management is policy-driven software for distributed environments. Built on BigFix technology, it allows you to apply conservation policies infrastructure-wide, while providing the granularity to apply power management policies to a single computer.
Manage power consumption
Power Management provides a suite of Fixlets and wizards to help control computer power states and minimize waste caused by computers running while not in use. You can manage sleep, hibernation, and standby states on your running computers in the Reduce Power Consumption node in the navigation tree.
Power profiles
Use power profiles so that computers can go into a low-power state when the user is idle for a predetermined amount of time. You can manage the power profiles for your deployment by using the Create Power Profile Fixlets wizard. Click the wizard from the Manage Power Profiles node in the navigation tree.
Change power state
BigFix Power Management includes tasks to immediately force endpoints into standby or hibernation, overriding the active power profile and user activity on those computers.

      - PC Insomnia
        Some Windows computers fail to enter hibernate or standby mode after the appropriate amount of user idle time, due to PC Insomnia. The Manage PC Insomnia Fixlets force a computer to enter standby or hibernate once the amount of user idle time specified in the power profile has elapsed. Forcing a computer into Standby allows faster wake times. Forcing a computer into hibernation causes longer wake-up times, but allows slightly greater power savings.
      - Standby behavior
        Only certain input devices can wake a computer from standby when a user interacts with them, and only if the correct Windows settings are enabled. This task finds all wake capable input devices and enables them to allow Wake-from-Standby.

Change current power state

BigFix Power Management includes tasks to immediately force endpoints into standby or hibernation, overriding the active power profile and user activity on those computers.

Power Management includes tasks that immediately change the power state of targeted endpoints, regardless of the currently active power profile or user activity. This is useful for driving endpoints into a low-power state on demand — for example, at the end of a shift, during a maintenance window, or as part of a scheduled energy-saving operation.

Two tasks are available:

Force Entry into Standby: Puts targeted computers into standby (sleep) mode immediately. Standby preserves the current session in memory and resumes faster than hibernation, but requires continuous power to maintain the memory state.
Force Entry into Hibernation: Saves the current session to disk and powers the computer off. Hibernation consumes no power while the computer is in this state and is suitable for longer periods of inactivity where wake-up latency is acceptable.

To run either task, navigate to Change Current Power State in the Power Management navigation tree, select the appropriate task in the List Panel, and click the action link in the task window to target the relevant computers.
