Although backing up and removing session data on a daily basis is the ideal scenario, you should implement a backup plan that is appropriate for your production environment.

      - Configuring Backup Settings
        In the Portal Management page, you can enable daily backups and configure settings for automated daily backups of event model data, which are stored on the Report Server in the designated directory. As needed, Portal backups can be restored, returning your Discover solution to a previously saved state.

        To access Portal backups, select Discover > Manage Portal from the Portal menu. In the left navigation panel, click Backup & Restore.
      - Managing Backups
        At any time, you can archive event model data to the specified backup directory through the Portal. For example, if you are experimenting with Portal settings or performing significant modifications to your event definitions, you may wish to perform an on-demand backup before beginning to make these changes.

        Configuring DCBackup
        You can configure DCBackup by using the backup directory. Using the following steps you can specify the number of old backup folders to retain, the number of partial backup folders to retain, and how much additional free space to allot on the hard drive.
        Command-line options
        In addition to backing up Discover, DCBackup is the service used to cycle services in the Discover system, except for the Transport Service, which must remain present to spool data during the DCBackup operation.

    The Discover Management System (Manage Services) centralizes configuration management for Discover systems on Windows™-based hosts.
  - Database Administration
    The Unica Discover datastore runs on top of a set of four Microsoft™ SQL Server databases.

    Users whose accounts contain the proper permissions may administer Discover reports. Depending on the type of report, permissions to administer individual reports of that type are configured in the report definition.

    Through Discover, you can monitor the different types of user agents that contact your web application. Through a provided set of data objects, Discover can identify the type of traffic that is requesting resources from your web application and then monitor counts and other information that pertains to the type of user agent. These objects can be used as the source data for developing a useful set of user agent-related reports, enabling you to closely monitor the composition of traffic to your site.

    This section describes how to acquire and maintain the configuration files necessary for parsing of fixed and mobile user agents and how to prepare those files for use in the Unica Discover platform.

    To use the data that is injected into the [ExtendedUserAgent] section by the Discover SessionAgentTLTRef, a Discover administrator must create events that create charts for this data.

    Unica Discover and Unica Journey integration works with CEP configuration. The CEP configuration enables the event to be sent to CEP and the external systems. Unica Discover-Unica Journey integration is supported from version 12.1.0.3 onwards.

    Unica Discover and Unica Interact integration works with CEP configuration. The CEP configuration enables the event to be sent to CEP and the external systems. Unica Discover-Unica Interact integration is supported from version 12.1.0.3 onwards.

Backing up Discover

Discover provides multiple mechanisms for backing up your Discover system and your captured data.

Backup Type: Description
Event Model data: Through the Portal Management page, you can execute scheduled and on-demand backups of event model data. For more information, see "Backing up the Unica Discover event model" in the Discover Installation Manual.
Database data: Using the Discover Database Manager or SQL Server Management Studio, you can perform full backups of all Discover databases.
Canister data: Discover provides a pair of utilities for backing up session and index data stored on Discover Canisters. For more information, see DCBackup and DCRestore.
scorecards/dashboards/reports: Through the Portal, you can import and export templates for scorecards, dashboards, and reports. For more information, see "Importing and Exporting Reports" in the Unica Discover Manuals.
