To open a version not currently in your view from the Version Tree Browser or (on Windows systems) the History Browser
About this task
Tip: This procedure assumes that if you work in a snapshot view, the
element is loaded in the view.
Windows tip: Before you start, if you want to open versions from the Version
Tree Browser or the History Browser, add shortcuts for your development applications
to the Windows Send To folder.
Procedure
- Display a file element in the Version Tree Browser or display a file element in the History Browser.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- On a UNIX system or Linux, with the left mouse button, select a version.
- On a Windows system, right-click a version and click Send To.
- Perform one of the following actions:
- On a UNIX system or Linux, right-click the version and, on the shortcut menu, select Open file to open the version in your default text editor
- On a Windows system, select an application from which you can view the
source file.Windows tip: In a snapshot view, a file is created in your TMP directory (as defined by your Windows environment variables) and this file is sent to the application. In a dynamic view, the VOB data is made available to the application without creating a temporary file. In either case, a name is provided that refers to the VOB container of the file, not to the user-visible name of the element.Windows tip: Applications that rely on specific file extensions will not open versions from the Send To command. In this case, you must copy a version-extended path name to a path name with the required extension.
