Opening and reading mail
You can use mail to electronically communicate with coworkers, friends, and family. When you are not connected to the Internet, you can work offline and create, send, reply, and forward mail; all of your outgoing messages are sent when you go back online.

Perform any of the tasks listed in Table 1 to view or read mail.

Open a message. | Double-click the message. |
View your mail in a preview pane so that you can read messages without opening them. In full mode, you can also perform some tasks from in the preview pane, such as accepting or declining a meeting invitation and viewing the message threads. |
From any mail views, except Rules, click Show and then choose whether the preview pane opens at the end or the side. Resize the preview pane by moving the cursor over the edge of the pane. When your cursor changes to a double arrow, drag the pane to the desired size. Note: You can also choose to hide the preview pane.

Sort messages. | Click the heading of the mail column to sort by. To reverse the order, click
the column heading again. Note: When you sort, the message list pivots on the selected message; that
is, the selected message maintains focus in the newly sorted list. Tip: If you
sort mail by subject, common mail subject prefixes such as "Re:" and "Fw:" are ignored, improving
sort results by keeping messages with otherwise similar subjects together. |
Find a message using scroll hints. |
After sorting your mail, the column headings display scroll hints that indicate how the view is sorted. |
View unread messages only. | Click Show > Unread Only. |
View delivery information on a message you receive. | From an open message, click | .
Mark one or more messages read or unread. | Click the arrow next to Mark As, and select whether to
mark the selected messages or all messages read or unread. Note: Click the words Mark

entire conversation at once. Note: This feature is available in full mode only and must be enabled

In the navigation panel, expand Views >Mail Threads. From an open message, click . In the preview pane, click Threads. |

Open an HCL Notes® link in a browser or
in Notes®. You can also open links in messages that
have been replied to with history or forwarded. Note: This feature must be configured by your
administrator. |

Move to the next or previous message without returning to the list. | Click the up or down arrow at the beginning of the message. |
Mark a message for follow up. | Click the arrow next to Follow Up. |
Copy message contents into a new message, meeting invitation, or to do item. The new entry inherits the subject from the message you are reading, and the message contents will appear in the message (or details) section of the new entry. Meeting invitations or messages inherit the names or groups specified in the to, cc, or bcc fields. | From an open message, click More > Copy Into New. Select Message, Calendar Entry, or To Do. |
Restore a deleted message. When a message is deleted, it is moved to the trash folder, where it remains for the duration set in Mail preferences. | Open the Trash folder. Select the message you want to restore and click Restore. |
If you have installed a feed reader in your Web browser, add an RSS feed to your mail Inbox so that you can browse new messages as a list of feeds, instead of opening your Notes® Inbox. | If your administrator has enabled the RSS feeds feature, an displays on the action bar.
