Creating an offline data source

Create an offline data source in HCL CDP so that you can ingest customer profile data from TSV files into the Data Pipeline.

Before you begin

  • Your TSV file is UTF-8 encoded, uses tab-separated values, and follows the formatting standards described in Profile Management.

About this task

An offline data source defines the mapping between columns in your TSV file and customer properties in the CDP. After you create the data source, you can upload files against it to ingest profile records.

Procedure

  1. Navigate to Data Pipeline > Profile Management > Offline Data Sources.
  2. Click + Add New.

The data source name must be between 6 and 25 characters and contain only alphabetic characters. Numeric or special characters are not accepted.

  3. Enter a name for the data source and click Save.
  4. Select the data source and click + Ingest for this category.
  5. Upload the TSV file that contains the customer profile records.
  6. Map each column in the file to the corresponding customer property.
For more information about uploading profile data section, refer Uploading profile data.
  7. To add a new customer property that does not yet exist, click + Add New Customer Property in the mapping dialog.
    1. Enter the property name and display name.
    2. Select the data type (for example, STRING, NUMBER).
    3. Optionally, enable Segmentation to expose the property in the segmentation query builder.
    4. Optionally, enable Macro to register the property as a macro for personalization in engagements.
  8. Verify that all user identifiers remain correctly mapped after adding new properties.

If you add a new customer property and then select a field, the existing user identifier mappings must not be removed. If they are removed, re-map them before proceeding.

  9. Click Save to create the offline data source.

Results

The offline data source appears in the Offline Data Sources list. You can now upload TSV files against this data source to ingest profile records into the CDP.
