FAQs
Some frequently asked questions about backup and restore.
Are there limitations to the default file system backup?
This simple backup solution does not "de-duplicate" or compress data and can require a lot of disk space. The integration with third-party solutions can provide these capabilities and more.
Is the default file system backup and restore managed autonomously?
Yes, if you use the default method to back up files to a disk or network share, the Backup task manages the files automatically, including removing (pruning) files at a specified interval.
Can I specify two different locations for file system backup?
For the default file system backup, only one location is used. Although it's possible to use an @formula to specify more than one location, doing so isn't recommended.
Are DAOS attachments backed up?
DAOS attachments are not backed up by default. You must use a third-party backup solution to back them up. Domino restore provides a built in solution to restore them.
When and where should DAOS attachment be backed up?
A third-party solution should backup DAOS attachments at about the same interval as databases. Best practice is to use different backup repositories for each due to the nature of their data: NSF fast changing, DAOS static once written.
If I choose to restore documents to a separate folder in the original database, are they duplicates?
The restored documents are in the original folders and in the optional configurable folder, but they are the same document, just available in both locations.
