Promoting a backup registry host to primary registry host
Use the rgy_switchover command to promote the backup registry server, and then reconfigure each registry client to use the new server.
About this task
This scenario assumes that the rgy_backup program has been running successfully on backup registry host rgy2. When the primary registry host rgy1 fails, you can use rgy_switchover to promote rgy2 to primary registry host. When rgy1 becomes available again, you use rgy_backup and then rgy_switchover to return rgy1 to the role of primary registry host.
To
promote the backup registry host:
- Run rgy_switchover. Make rgy2 the primary
registry host. Make rgy3 the new backup registry host:
rgy_switchover –backup rgy3 rgy1 rgy2
- Reconfigure client hosts. Client hosts that were online and running the location broker (albd) at switchover time need not be reconfigured to recognize the new primary registry host. The rgy_switchover command does not update client hosts to indicate that a new primary registry host is in use. You must reconfigure the other client hosts manually, following the procedure in Defining a DevOps Code ClearCase registry host, when they become available.
- Configure a new backup registry host. Configure an additional backup registry host to provide continuing rgy_switchover capability while the primary registry host is down and the backup registry host is functioning as the primary registry host. Follow the procedures in Defining a backup registry host.
