License servers and license administration

Most DevOps Code ClearCase® applications and commands (cleartool commands, for example, or GUIs such as the ClearTeam Explorer) require a license to run.

IBM customers

DevOps Code ClearCase can use IBM Common Licensing, or ClearCase Licensing, a proprietary licensing scheme.

The behavior of licenses (when they are required, how they are granted, how long they are valid, and so on) is similar in both licensing systems. However, the systems are separate, and each scheme has different administrative requirements.
Note: After you reconfigure a DevOps Code ClearCase host to use a different licensing system, you must stop and restart DevOps Code ClearCase on that host.

HCL customers

DevOps Code ClearCase can use My HCLSoftware Licensing or ClearCase Licensing.

My HCLSoftware Licensing is available if ClearCase is provided by HCL.

The behavior of licenses determines how and when licenses are checked out, how they are granted, and how long they remain valid. These behaviors are consistent across different HCL products that use the HCL Local License Server (LLS). HCL LLS handles licensing management centrally, while each integrated product might require different administrative procedures.
Note: After you reconfigure to switch from a different license system, you must stop and restart DevOps Code ClearCase on that host.
