Saving a query

You can save queries for repeated use in new login sessions.

Before you begin

  • A query name can be up to 64 characters in length.
  • A query name cannot contain backslashes or forward slashes.

About this task

There are several scenarios in which you can save a query:
  • If you are creating a query with the Query wizard, you can save it after you run it and the Query window opens.
  • If you are creating a query with the Query and Display editors, you can save it at any time during the creation process.
  • If you are editing an existing query, you can save the changes and overwrite the query definition. Or you can save the changes under a new query name.

You can always save a query to your Personal Queries folder. If you have the Public Folder Administrator privilege, you can edit and save a query to the Public Queries folder.

When you save a query to your Personal Queries folder, this information is stored in the HCL Compass database. You can access the saved query by logging in to the database from any supported client (HCL Compass Web client, HCL Compass for Windows® client, or HCL Compass Eclipse Client).

To save a query in your Personal Queries folder:

Procedure

  1. While viewing the query in the Query window, click File > Save or File > Save As.

If you are saving the query under an existing query name, you are finished.

If you are creating a new query, or saving an existing query under a new name, the Save As window opens. Continue to Step 2.

  2. In the Query Name field, type the name under which to save the query.
  3. Click OK.

Results
