Administering
Overview of administering a WebSphere Commerce site
In WebSphere Commerce the person who performs administrative tasks is called a Site Administrator. The Site Administrator installs, configures, and maintains WebSphere Commerce and the associated software and hardware. The administrator responds to system warnings, alerts, and errors, and diagnoses and resolves system problems. Typically, this person controls access and authorization (creating and assigning members to the appropriate role), manages the Web site, monitors performance, and manages load balancing tasks. The Site Administrator might be responsible for establishing and maintaining several server configurations for different stages of development such as testing, staging, and production. The Site Administrator also handles critical system backups and resolves performance problems.
Administration Console
Site Administrators use the Administration Console to control a site or store by completing administrative operations and configuration tasks such as publishing stores, refreshing the registry, and scheduling jobs. You can access the Administration Console at a site-level, or for a particular store.
Scheduler
The Scheduler is a background server that schedules and launches jobs, both at the site and store levels. From the Configuration menu of the Administration Console, the scheduler allows Site Administrators to schedule and configure jobs.
Jobs
A job is a WebSphere Commerce command that is scheduled to run on behalf of a site or store at a specified time or interval. There are three types of jobs.
Product Advisor cycle
Product Advisor creation and maintenance is an ongoing process for the site administrator and the store developer.
PAXMLExportBatchCmd scheduler command
This scheduler command exports all Product Exploration, Product Comparison, and Guided Sell metaphors of all the categories in a store. The metaphors are exported in XML format and can be used by the PACreateMetaphorBatchCmd scheduler command to recreate the metaphors.

PAXMLExportBatchCmd scheduler command

This scheduler command exports all Product Exploration, Product Comparison, and Guided Sell metaphors of all the categories in a store. The metaphors are exported in XML format and can be used by the PACreateMetaphorBatchCmd scheduler command to recreate the metaphors.

Parameter values

storeId: Required: The reference number of the store associated with the metaphors you want to export.
xmlFileName: Required: The name of the output XML file with the fully qualified path. The XML file is created in the machine where you have installed WebSphere Commerce For example,
WCDE_installdir\samples\pa\xml\PE_PC_GS_60001.xml

Behavior

Exports the Product Exploration metaphor, Product Comparison metaphor and Guided Sell metaphor to the specified file.

Exception conditions

If the input parameters are wrong, then the command throws the ECApplicationException
If the file name provided for the xmlFileName parameter is not valid, then the command fails.
If a non root user runs the WebSphere Commerce instance but does not have the relevant write permissions for the folder that holds the input XML file, then the command fails.
