Installing WebSphere Commerce

Installing WebSphere Commerce using the custom installation
A custom installation allows you to select various components to install on one machine at a time. To install different components on different machines, perform a WebSphere Commerce custom installation on each of the machines in your configuration. A custom installation does not create your WebSphere Commerce instance automatically. You must create the instance after installing WebSphere Commerce and its software stack.

Preparing for a custom installation
A custom installation will proceed more smoothly if you have prepared for it by determining your site topology, software stack, and have performed the necessary system preparation.

WebSphere Commerce supports several different Web servers. Depending on the web server different preparation steps are required.
Using Microsoft IIS
If you are planning to use Microsoft IIS as your WebSphere Commerce web server, you must install Microsoft IIS according to the Microsoft product documentation. After you have completed installing Microsoft IIS, you must install and configure WebSphere Commerce. The configuration of your web server is completed after you create a WebSphere Commerce instance.

Using Microsoft IIS

If you are planning to use Microsoft IIS as your WebSphere Commerce web server, you must install Microsoft IIS according to the Microsoft product documentation. After you have completed installing Microsoft IIS, you must install and configure WebSphere Commerce. The configuration of your web server is completed after you create a WebSphere Commerce instance.

Note: If you plan to use the IIS Web server with WebSphere Commerce, you need to be aware of associated security considerations and take the recommended actions to minimize any security exposure of your WebSphere Commerce data.
