Installing WebSphere Commerce on IBM i using the
custom installation
A custom installation allows you to select various components to install on one machine at a time. To install different components on different machines, perform a WebSphere Commerce custom installation on each of the machines in your configuration. A custom installation does not create your WebSphere Commerce instance automatically. You must create the instance after installing WebSphere Commerce and its software stack.




- Perform a distributed installation of WebSphere Commerce and its software stack components
- Use software already installed as part of the WebSphere Commerce software stack
- Use a remote database server.
- Use an existing installation of DB2 Database as the WebSphere Commerce database. WebSphere Commerce supports preinstalled DB2 Database Express, or DB2 Database Enterprise.
Use Oracle database as the WebSphere Commerce database server
Note: If you want WebSphere Commerce to use a 64-bit Oracle server (local or remote) on 64-bit Windows:
- Install a local 32-bit Oracle client
- Ensure the 32-bit oracle client can connect to your 64-bit Oracle server.
- Ensure that the Oracle server JVM is 32-bit.
- Use a remote Web server.
Use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) as the WebSphere Commerce Web server
- Use an existing installation of IBM HTTP Server 7.0 as the WebSphere Commerce Web server.
- Use a version of IBM HTTP Server other than version 7 as the WebSphere Commerce Web server
Use Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) version 6.0, version 7.0, or version 8.0 as the WebSphere Commerce Web server
Use Sun Java System Web Server 7.0 Update 4 as the WebSphere Commerce Web server
- Use an existing installation of WebSphere Application Server as the WebSphere Commerce application server.
- WebSphere Commerce Server
This component provides all of the functionality of WebSphere Commerce except for WebSphere Commerce Payments.
Selecting this component installs the following subcomponents on the node:- WebSphere Application Server
- WebSphere Commerce Server
- WebSphere Commerce Information Center
- WebSphere Commerce starter stores
- Deprecated featureWebSphere Commerce Payments
- Remote WebSphere Commerce Management Utilities
- This component allows you to create instances and configure WebSphere Commerce and WebSphere Commerce Payments from a node remote from both the WebSphere Commerce and WebSphere Commerce Payments nodes.
- WebSphere Commerce Information Center
- The WebSphere Commerce Information Center is a subcomponent of the WebSphere Commerce Server. Selecting this component installs the context sensitive help for the following languages:

Selecting this component allows you to install and configure DB2 Database Server and the DB2 Data Server Client. Select the DB2 Database Server if you are installing the database on the local machine, or select the DB2 Data Server Client if your database server is remote.
Selecting to install DB2 Database Server automatically installs the database and the client.
When configuring WebSphere Commerce with a remote database, you must select to install the DB2 Data Server Client on the WebSphere Commerce node.
IBM HTTP Server
Selecting this component installs and configures IBM HTTP Server Version 7.0. It does not install any other versions of IBM HTTP Server supported by WebSphere Commerce. It also installs the WebSphere Application Server plug-in for IBM HTTP Server.
- WebSphere Application Server Web server plug-in for IBM HTTP Server
- This option is only available if IBM HTTP Server is detected on
the system and the WebSphere Application Server Web server plug-in
for IBM HTTP Server is not detected.
Selecting this component installs the WebSphere Application Server Web server plug-in for IBM HTTP Server.
