Updating server IBM LMT software catalog

The server IBM License Metric Tool software catalog is automatically updated during every upgrade of BigFix Inventory. The IBM LMT software catalog is often released a few weeks before a BigFix Inventory release which inculdes the software catalog. To provide the benefit of early access to the latest IBM software definitions, BigFix Inventory offers an update of the IBM LMT software catalog in earlier versions of the server. The software catalog is provided by the Server IBM LMT Software Catalog Update task, available in the BigFix Inventory Discovery BigFix site. The task is available to a few recent releases of BigFix Inventory, usually two releases and all their patches.

Note: In rare cases, a new IBM LMT software catalog require changes in the BigFix Inventory server. In that event, the Server IBM LMT Software Catalog Update task is not available and the BigFix Inventory server upgrade is the only possibility to update the IBM LMT software catalog.

Before you begin

  • The Server IBM LMT Software Catalog Update task updates the data in the following directories:
    • Linux icon<BFI server installation directory>/wlp/usr/servers/server1/data/sam/catalog/LMT
    • Windows icon <BFI server installation directory>\wlp\usr\servers\server1\data\sam\catalog\LMT

About this task

Automatic Server IBM LMT Catalog Update (recommended)
  1. Log in to the BigFix console.
  2. In the navigation bar, click External Sites > BigFix Inventory Discovery > Fixlets and Tasks.
  3. In the upper-right pane, select Server IBM LMT Software Catalog Update, and then click Take Action. The action is applicable only on the computer on which the BigFix Inventory server is installed. Select the computer, and click OK.

  4. Wait for the scheduled import of data or run it manually.
Manual Server IBM LMT Catalog Update
  1. Download the server software catalog
    1. Log in to the BigFix console.
    2. In the navigation bar, click External Sites > BigFix Inventory Discovery > Fixlets and Tasks.
    3. In the upper-right pane, select Server IBM LMT Software Catalog Update.
    4. Use the link in the Description panel to download the server IBM LMT software catalog.
  2. Upload the server IBM LMT software catalog to BigFix Inventory.
    1. Place the IBM LMT software catalog file in the following directory on the computer where the BigFix Inventory server is installed:
      • Linux icon<BFI server installation directory>/wlp/usr/servers/server1/data/sam/catalog/LMT
      • Windows icon <BFI server installation directory>\wlp\usr\servers\server1\data\sam\catalog\LMT
    2. Wait for the scheduled import of data or run it manually.

Results

The IBM LMT software catalog is updated in the BigFix Inventory to the latest version.
