Sample Plan for AIX® LPAR WebSphere® Server

Server Automation provides a sample Automation Plan for building a functioning logical partition with Websphere Application Server installed. Using this Automation Plan, you can provision a logical partition (LPAR) on a PowerVM® Managed System, install an operating system image, netboot the LPAR, deploy a BigFix agent, and install Websphere Application Server on the LPAR.

Procedure

  1. Open the Server Automation domain.
  2. From the Domain Panel, select Automation Plans.
  3. In the Automation Plans dashboard, enter 148 in the filter text box and press the Enter key.
  4. From the Automation Plans list select the Build LPAR Websphere Server Sample Automation Plan.
  5. Click Copy to copy the Automation Plan and then save the copy that you have just created.
  6. To run the Automation Plan, click Take Action. The following table shows each step of the Plan and provides links to more information about each step.

    Note: This step is required because after completing the Net booting in the previous step, the AIX® installation for AIX® LPAR and machine setup will still continue in the background and will not be immediately available for use by the subsequent step. So, automation plan flow is required to be paused for some time until AIX® LPAR becomes available with the Console login prompt. The user (AIX® Admin) needs to check for the approximate pause time required here and provide it in minutes.

  7. Click OK to run the Plan

The Automation Plan runs.

What to do next

  1. For deploying BigFix Agent on AIX® LPAR machine, user needs to use Client Deployment Tool and its agent installation Fixlet 2401- Deploy BigFix Clients using the BigFix Client Deploy Tool. Currently, this Fixlet can not be used in the automation plan steps. This needs to be run manually outside the automation plan as a Fixlet to take action on it.   2. For installing IBM® WebSphere® Application Server (Network Deployment) 7.x on RHEL, SLES and IBM® AIX®, another automation plan is required with Fixlet 43 - Install IBM® WebSphere® Application Server (Network Deployment) 7.x on RHEL, SLES and IBM® AIX® and take action on it.
