Set up floating license using Cloud or Local License Server

Your floating license server can be on the cloud. But if your machine doesn't have internet access, or if you want your own license server, it can be local on a machine in your network.

About this task

Proxies and firewalls:If a proxy is defined in Windows, AppScan will use it when accessing the domain, and if the proxy requires authentication a pop-up will appear and you will need to supply valid credentials.
  • Cloud license server: AppScan must have access to domain: cls.hcl-software.com.
  • Local license server: AppScan must have access to the port that was used to create the local license server. Make sure it is not blocked by the Windows proxy or any firewall.

Local license server

About this task

Steps to configure a local license in AppScan Standard.

Procedure

  1. Follow the instructions on the Managing HCL Local License Server page and perform the following tasks to download and install the latest version (version 5.1 or later) of the HCL Local License Server (LLS).
    1. System requirements: Check whether your system meets the hardware, software, and operating system requirements to install the HCL Local License Server (LLS) product.
    2. Preinstallation tasks: Download the LLS installer package. The package contains programs that help you to generate fingerprints, and self-signed TLS certificates that are required for performing the installation. Save the downloaded license file for later to get the poolID while configuring the local license server in AppScan Standard.
    3. Installing HCL Local License Server: After you finish all the pre-installation tasks, you can begin the installation of HCL Local License Server (LLS). You can then manage the licenses of HCLSoftware products.
    4. Verifying HCL Local License Server installation: After you have installed HCL Local License Server (LLS), you must verify the installation to ensure that the LLS is reachable. Note down this URL <https://FQDNhostname:LLSport/v1/licensepools/poolID> as you need it when you configure your local license in AppScan Standard
  2. Configure the Local License Server in AppScan:
    1. In AppScan Standard, click Help > License.
    2. Click Configure license.
    3. Select License Server (cloud or local) and enter the URL you got while installing the local license server in the following format. https://FQDNhostname:LLSport/v1/licensepools/poolID. Replace the following values in this URL and then click Save.
      • FQDNhostname is FQDN of your LLS host machine
      • LLSport is the port number you specified at the time of fingerprint generation
      • poolID is the unique ID of the deployment you want to use. You can find the pool ID in the installed_directory/logs/hcl_lls_pools.log file or by using the following API endpoint: https://FQDNhostname:LLSport/v1/licensepools
The license is verified by a green check-mark and confirmation message "License configured successfully"
      Note:
      • The *expiry date on AppScan licenses follows UTC date and time. *expiry date: In case of multiple entitlements, the expiry date displayed is the one that expires first.
      • If AppScan is unable to reach the license server for any reason, the license can be used for up to 3 days "Grace Period" from the last time AppScan was connected to the server.
